About Dr. Blackwood
Bio
Dr. Alecia Blackwood is a passionate master teacher with over 20 years of experience as an educator in the public school system and homeschooling arena. She is an International Speaker who has shared her expertise with teachers at the University of Central Florida, the University of Botswana, the University of Namibia, and the University of Johannesburg through lectures and workshops.
Dr. Blackwood is also an African-Centered curriculum and instructional specialist. She has worked with private schools, public schools, and homeschool families in the US, Africa, and the Caribbean, helping to infuse culturally relevant material into their curricula. She is one of the country’s leading experts on Ubuntu pedagogy, which is a humanistic approach to actively engaging students in the teaching and learning process.
Dr. Blackwood also works passionately in the community attached to her home in Orlando Florida as the Executive Director of Afrikan Kulcha School, Inc. Afrikan Kulcha School is a non-profit organization that provides cultural education for students in the community. The school also has a rite of passage called the Sankofa Youth Initiative program that takes students to study abroad in Ethiopia and Ghana.
Currently, she is an independent researcher, educational consultant and an assistant professor at Longwood University.
